The Boy
Scouts of America celebrated its one-hundredth anniversary on February 8, 2010. Boy
Scouts of America (BSA) was founded in 1910 and is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with over four million members at the present. There are three traditional scouting divisions depending on the age, as follows: Cub Scouting for boys ages between 7 and 10 years, Boy Scouting for boys ages between 11 and 18 and Venturing for young men and women ages between 14 and 21. The goal of the
scouts of America is that of training the youth of the country through participation in different outdoor activities, educational programs in order to become better citizens and develop their character and self-reliance. The method used in order to accomplish these objectives is the scout method, with variations so that it is appropriate for each age.
Scouts of America are "trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent" as the scout law demands. The adult leaders act as role models and mentors within the troops, and interact with the scouts who are expected to plan their own activities and to participate in community service. "Helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society" is the belief and also the purpose of the
scouts of America.
