Scouts of France have around 80 different associations and federations out of which only nine are recognized by the Minister of Youth and Sports and thus are legal and can work on a national level. There are at the present 180.000
scouts of France. The national recognized organizations are grouped in two federations and one independent organization. Federation of French Scouting is the national member of both World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). This federation has a number of about 120.000 members grouped into five co-educational associations. There is also the French Conference on Scouting that has about 35.000 scouts of France as members grouped into three co-educational associations. Unitary
Scouts of France is the independent organization founded in 1971, it is Catholic and has about 23.000 members. There are at least 50 independent Scouting associations in France outside the above mentioned federations. Most of them are recognized by regional or local authorities, some via religious communities. They have an estimated membership of about 5.000 Guides and
Scouts of France.
